Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind the Climax Top 100 DJ chart and the groundbreaking algorithm used to rank the world’s most influential DJs and producers?
We all have backgrounds in the industry with expertise in artist management, marketing, promotions, radio, and label management. Working and dealing with all aspects of the electronic music scene we thought there was the need for clear transparent data in order to measure how effective an artist could be in terms of music releases and social media presence. We made Climax for artists, fans, and people in the industry like us, because we think it is important to have a scientific measurement to see where the dance music industry is going.

How did you decide on the specific parameters and sources used in the algorithm to provide the overall ranking?
First of all, we believe that for a producer to be successful, they need to have popular music and be popular themselves. Therefore, it was important to have high numbers in terms of streaming and sales, as well as good numbers on social media platforms. This allowed us to identify the top DSPs and social media platforms globally, which became the parameters for our algorithm.

Can you walk us through the process of collecting and analyzing the data in the algorithm?
Each parameter (DSP and social media platform) was assigned a different weight in the algorithm based on its usage frequency. This ensured balance, as some parameters have a wider reach and thus require a higher weight than others that are more niche. We collected raw data from various platforms, ingested it into our system, ran the calculations through the algorithm, and then had the Top 100 Chart ready.

Can you share any challenges or obstacles faced while developing the Climax algorithm?
One of the biggest challenges was that in order to narrow it down to 100 top DJs, we had to study thousands of artists. For the algorithm to be accurate, every dance music artist on the planet needed to be considered.

How do you plan to keep the Climax chart updated and relevant in a constantly evolving industry?
The principle of Climax will remain the same – consistently identifying key platforms in our industry and assigning them a value (or weight), ingesting raw data from these platforms, and running the algorithm. Of course, in the future, there may be new streaming platforms that become popular, or new social networks that gain traction (similar to how TikTok became prominent in recent years). We will identify these new players and consider them in our calculations.
Ultimately, having a formula that people are familiar with and that everyone can verify will provide tremendous value to our project. Our chart cannot be manipulated, it is transparent, and it represents real data

How do you see Climax impacting the way DJs and producers approach their craft and careers?
We believe Climax provides a benchmark that every artist, established or developing, can use to identify key platforms to focus on in order to grow. This will be useful for everyone in our industry. For instance, artists can compare their music and presence with other colleagues, and labels can track the success of their new releases and help them determine which artists to sign. Promoters and event organisers can also identify new trends in terms of music and artists.

You recently launched Climax during Miami Music Week. Can you describe the response and feedback you received from attendees and industry insiders?
Considering this was our first event and we launched the algorithm during MMW, we received an incredible response. Many artists and management companies from the Top 100 DJs (and more) attended our event. It was great to see that these individuals trusted and loved the idea, despite us launching everything on that day and without any prior knowledge. This shows that the dance music industry as a whole was lacking something like Climax, and we hope that Climax will become the reference portal for the future.

Were there any memorable moments during the launch event you’d like to share?
There were too many highlights to mention, but one that stood out was when British DJ and producer Majestic attended and played at the launch. He even released a music video and song that mentioned Climax and the chart. This level of support is truly amazing and we appreciate it immensely. We love Majestic!

In your opinion, what impact do you think Climax will have on the electronic music industry as a whole?
We hope that the Climax Top 100 chart will become a reference point for the dance music community every year. We believe that the data we are compiling could be useful for artists, managers, booking agents, labels, and fans alike.

How do you see Climax evolving in the future? Are there any new parameters or sources you plan to add in future iterations?
Currently, we plan to keep the parameters of the algorithm as they are since we have spent more than a year perfecting this formula. However, as you mentioned earlier, times are changing and music is constantly evolving. Therefore, we will keep our eyes open for any changes that may be necessary and will implement them into the algorithm if needed.
