Redfreya brings you her incredible The Waves EP, the full EP is out on 10th June. The Waves is the debut label release for Anomaly Music, the exciting new incarnation of the Anomaly collective curated by Nick Berry, Harry Hooper, and Panthera Krause, perfectly showcasing what people can expect from the innovative label.
Redfreya, a London-based artist shaping the future of emotive, introspective dance music. Drawing on her classical training and deep-rooted club sensibility, Redfreya’s productions balance rich harmonic depth with driving, hypnotic rhythm. Her music is embraced by leading selectors including Dixon, Jimi Jules, Marcus Worgull, Frankey & Sandrino, John Digweed, and Hernan Cattaneo – clear evidence of her growing influence across the underground circuit and why she is a perfect fit for Anomaly Music.
Redfreya explains: ‘I’m honoured to be the debut label release for Anomaly Music. I’ve followed them for a long time and always felt inspired by what they stand for, their vision, sound and aesthetic, so it felt like a natural fit to work together. My 3x track EP contains some of the most personal, emotional music I’ve written so far.
Title track The Waves opens with a quirky bassline, where rolling ‘80s-style synths slowly draw you in – balancing shiny, dusty and characterful sonic textures in equal measure. Unmistakably warm, the track unfolds with gradual storytelling; the emotional hook builds through melodic pads and chorus vocals that seem to leave an open question mark hanging in the air. This track will resonate differently for everyone – but its emotional pull is undeniable.
Redfreya tells us more: The Waves is inspired by the bittersweet feeling that happiness is always fleeting…even as we arrive in the happy or euphoric moment, we are already leaving – you can’t stay in that place. But you can keep returning there, again and again. I’ve tried to capture this wistful mood in the melodic hook of the track.
Second track Daylight Savings is about always chasing the horizon – our struggle of perpetually chasing an imagined future happiness, never arriving to where we are right now and feel entirely satisfied. We chase the daylight / We chase the days / We chase the daylight / I’m searching for something more.
Running, the third track of the EP, is about feeling isolated, alone and encountering repeating cycles that trigger this in interpersonal dynamics. Ultimately, it’s about our desire to connect and share an emotional wavelength with other beings – to feel less alone.
Nick Berry (Anomaly Music) adds: “It’s a pleasure to be releasing Anomaly 001 with Redfreya. For us, the music was the most important part of the launch. We needed to ensure that the first EP was reflective of the labels values and the sound that we are looking to foster. Redfreya’s music is deep, hypnotic and soulful. She is a classically trained musician, multi-instrumentalist and singer. That matters now more than ever in this hyperdigitalised age.
Beyond this, she is a wonderful human and artist that believes in our vision – so it felt like the perfect fit.”
