REVIEW: TEENAGE MUTANTS, METODI HRISTOV – RUNNING (EP)

Mainz duo Teenage Mutants explore the dark side of melodic techno in their Running EP, with Bulgarian tech house patron Metodi Hristov as guest remixer. A power packed anthem, Rising uses an undulating bassline to map out rhythmic patterns, while looming synths add a raw feel to the overarching melody. Title track Running unveils an arpeggio-heavy construction, as drum sequences build up an abstract melody, in a nervous rhythm that moves through a cavernous space brimming with sonic flares and distant synth echoes. Metodi Hristov rewires Running, administering a dose of rolling, groove-driven electro to this unapologetically compelling slice of techno. The artist operates frenzied percussion and irregular synth layers that all come together in unison for repeated, slow burning yet effective breakdowns.
