Clubby Boy

Techno Mood sits down with Clubby Boy at a pivotal moment in his journey. Fresh off the release of his self-titled LP on BOXX BANGERS, the DJ and producer is doubling down on the harder, warehouse driven sound that’s been lighting up his sets. Rooted in years of crate digging, long form DJing, and an instinct for reading the room, his approach to techno isn’t just about energy it’s about timing, texture, and tension.

In this feature, Clubby Boy traces that sound back to its source. From abrasive Detroit futurism to acid drenched peak time weapons, he selects a handful of tracks that have left a lasting imprint on his musical identity. These aren’t just favourites, they’re records that shaped how he builds a set, how he understands movement on a dancefloor, and how he channels intensity in his own productions.

Each pick comes with a personal reflection where he first heard it, why it stuck, and how it continues to influence his work today. Together, they form a snapshot of the sonic DNA behind Clubby Boy raw, driving, and unapologetically built for the club.

E-Dancer – Cry For The Future

I love Kevin Saunderson’s music, especially his E-Dancer alias. I love this one because the synth is so weird, it’s almost like hard to listen to at first. It’s kinda abrasive and loops so long but then after a while it’s infectious.

Circuit Breaker – Creator

This is a Richie Hawtin alias… hard as hell and driving. Everytime I’ve played it just annihilates the rooms. Acccid.

Aron Carl – Down

I mean this is just one of the nastiest beats with nasty lyrics. It’s just the best. Such a great producer that doesn’t get talked about enough.

Jeff Mills – Alarms

This one’s such a classic, I just love how it morphs and changes and builds throughout. Hearing it in a great system is something special. Last time I played it was at void in Philly and it just tears down the walls.

LFO – Freak

Love this classic. I played this last time I played void as well, such a great record. Perfect prime time record for a techno basement.
