Ilona Maras is a Montenegrin born artist who is currently living in Switzerland, and she recently dropped an explosive two-track techno release via Frankyeffe’s Riot Recordings. Prior to this release she has worked with other prestigious record labels including the likes of Filth on Acid, and she is also an accomplished DJ who has an international following. We caught up with Ilona Maras to learn more about her new release, and her background in music…

Hi Ilona Maras, it’s great to be talking with you today, can you start by running us through your background in music?
Hi! My love for electronic music sparked early, blending my roots, and all the different rave environments I lived in.

Tell us about where you live, and how the local scene has influenced your own music?
I’m based in Zurich, a city with a buzzing electronic scene. The vibrant nightlife here constantly fuels my creativity and keeps my sound fresh and exciting. It can oftentimes be challenging; however, it definitely keeps me pushing.

At what point in your life did you decide to become a DJ and start producing music?
“It all clicked in my early twenties. My debut track, “Existe,” on Get Physical Music, was a game-changer, showing me this passion was my path.”

Talk us through your new release “Intention Energy,” and what inspired the two-tracks on the EP?
Intention Energy dives into my raw side with a house flair. Yes, house flair 😃, even though they are pure techno energy. Once I’ve finished them, I was always referring to this EP as my little energetic house blended into techno. For a long time, I wanted to dive into the world of raw, yet driving sound, without crazy long breaks, yet something that will make you constantly move. And it seems I did it!

What’s been your most memorable gig to date, and what events are you booked to play within the next few months?
The Street Parade in Zurich last year was unforgettable – pure electric energy. Upcoming gigs include my debut in London E1 with Farrago, and also Street Parade in Zurich – Magic Love Mobile. In August I have a few more festivals, and of course my regular residency at Hive Zurich.

Can you list some of your biggest techno tracks of the summer?
Sure! Here are some that I’ve played a lot recently. I love them all!
– Ursula Rucker, Jay Hill – Evolution Party (Tiger Stripes Remix)
– Deadmau5 – Imaginary Friends (i_o Remix)
– Francesco Russo – Love And Unstable Wickedness (Original Mix)
– Eli Brown – Fading to Black (Original Mix)
– Clif Jack – Body Odyssey (Original Mix)”

What other record labels have you worked with, and what’s coming up in your release schedule?
“I’m collaborating with one exciting artist, but I cannot reveal a lot yet, so stay tuned!”

Thanks for taking the time to talk with us today, is there anything you would like to add before we finish?
Just a big thank you to all the fans. Your energy keeps me going. See you on the dance floor!
