Copenhagen-based DJ and producer Baime has established himself as a distinctive voice in the melodic techno and deep house scene. Known for his intricate synth work and atmospheric soundscapes, Baime has garnered recognition with releases on top-tier labels like Watergate, Radikon, and Stil vor Talent. Now, he brings his signature touch to Moodyverse with a remarkable remix of Humanity, skillfully balancing the original’s minimal charm with his innovative sonic layers. In this interview, Baime opens up about his creative approach, the challenges of remixing a standout track, and the evolving dynamics of his music journey.
You’ve added your unique touch to the Humanity EP with a great remix. How did you approach reworking the track, and what was your vision for it?
At first, it was actually a bit challenging because I really love the simplicity of the original track. It has such a pure, straightforward vibe that I didn’t want to lose. My goal was to preserve some of that minimal charm while still incorporating my signature Baime synth work to give it a fresh twist. I feel like I managed to strike a balance, keeping the essence of the original intact while adding my own sound and perspective to the mix.
You’ve had releases on some iconic labels like Watergate, Radikon, and Stil vor Talent. What does it mean to you to be part of these communities, and how have they shaped your journey?
It’s always a great feeling to be recognized by labels that I admire personally, and being released on those platforms has definitely been a big help in my journey. At the same time, there’s something truly special about working with a smaller label like Moodyverse. I know that Denes Toth, who runs the label, pours 100% of his energy into every release, ensuring that it reaches its full potential. That kind of dedication and passion makes the collaboration feel even more meaningful and rewarding. It’s not just about the release—it’s about the shared vision and commitment to creating something impactful together.
When you dive into a remix project like this, do you approach it differently compared to creating an original track?
It’s not always so different for me because, most of the time, I prefer to use just a few key elements from the original track as the foundation. However, with this remix, my approach was a bit different. Instead of stripping things down, it became more about asking, “What can I add to enhance what’s already there?” I wanted to build on the existing elements without removing too much, finding the right balance to complement the original while still bringing my own style into the mix.
What elements from Humanity resonated with you the most, and how did you build upon them in your remix?
The two elements that resonate the most for me are definitely the bassline and the vocals. They carry so much of the track’s essence, and I wanted to make sure they remained at the forefront. My goal was to extend and amplify the feeling these two elements evoke for the listener. By building around them, I aimed to enhance their emotional impact while staying true to the original vibe, creating something that feels fresh yet familiar.
How do you prepare for your studio sessions? Are there certain rituals or habits that keep you in the zone?
It’s hard for me to pinpoint exactly what I do to prepare for a studio session, as it often depends on the moment. With this track, I was really feeling the original, and the remix almost came together in a single session. I guess it’s all about the vibe for me. When I hear something I connect with, it gets me pumped and makes it so much easier to get into the creative zone. That natural flow and excitement are what drive my process and help me bring my ideas to life.
With such a range of prestigious labels under your belt, how do you decide where a track feels most at home?
At the moment, my focus is on working with people and labels that align with my energy and sound. It’s important to me to collaborate with labels that not only understand my vision but also take great care of my music. A perfect example of this is Moodyverse and how they handled my track Faster. They did an amazing job ensuring it made a strong impact, both on the charts and with streaming. These guys really know what they’re doing and keep pushing to maximize each release’s potential, which makes the collaboration so rewarding.
How do you view the role of remixes in electronic music? Is it about reinvention, homage, or something else entirely?
Personally, I do remixes because it’s fun and creatively rewarding. For me, it’s about giving the track a twist, tweaking it, and reflecting on how I imagine it might sound if it were my own. That said, I don’t see remixing as completely reinventing the original; it’s more like offering a fresh take on a piece of art. It’s about reinterpreting the track with a new perspective, creating an alternative experience for listeners while still respecting and staying true to the essence of the original.
You’ve gained recognition far beyond Denmark. How do you maintain your connection to the Copenhagen scene while building an international presence?
I’ve been part of the Danish scene for so many years that it would feel strange not to play in Denmark. It’s where I’ve grown as an artist and connected with so many amazing people. That’s why I make it a priority to stay in close contact with bookers and promoters to keep playing gigs here. For me, it’s about maintaining those connections and contributing to the local scene that has always supported and inspired me. Denmark will always be a big part of my musical journey.
Do you have any upcoming releases or projects in the pipeline in 2025 that fans should keep an eye out for?
I’m working hard in the studio right now, focusing on both original tracks and remixes, as well as a few exciting collaborations with other artists. While I can’t get into the details just yet, I’m really excited about these projects, and I’m hopeful that they’ll soon see the light of day. It’s an inspiring and creative time for me, and I can’t wait to share the results with you all when the time is right!
