Five years after the creation of Neoacid – a burgeoning acid techno imprint which became home to the likes of JKS, Charlie Sparks and Mr Gasmask, to name a few – iconic Belgian producer Jacidorex now looks to open up a new chapter in his already illustrious career with the launch of his new label and event brand, UNFACED. A broader musical platform through which Jacidorex will be releasing a range of genres that inspire him, beyond just acid, UNFACED is also new concept of events based in Brussels, aimed at producing exceptional warehouses raves graced by the very finest upcoming and established artists. We caught up with Jacidorex to find out more.

Hello Jacidorex and a very warm welcome to Techno Mood! How are you today?
In perfect shape, as always!

Please can you introduce yourself to our Techno Mood readers?
I’m Simon, a Brussels based producer, making music since I’m born, passionated about Romantic late 19th century composers, east-coast hip-hop & hypnotic electronic music, especially acid.

Where does your artist name Jacidorex come from?
I was producing D&B music in duo with my friend when I began to produce acid & techno music as side project, my parents had a clothe store called Jadorex so I just put acid in the name as a joke.

How did you first get into electronic music? Who or what were your biggest musical influences growing up?
I began to produce electronic music when I was 16, I met the friend I was doing my previously project with and he showed me Fl Studio. I was first producing rap, electro & hybrid classic & electro, then I begin to like harder stuff like dirty electro, dubstep, then D&B and hardcore. We release en EP on Forbidden Society at the moment, under the name of Apolloud. At the time I was really not into hypnotic music. I went to Dour Festival in 2013 and discovered techno by dancing hours on Blawan & Jeff mills. Two weeks after I discovered Mr Gasmask music and begin completely obsessed with it. I knew at that moment I had to make a music at the edge of those two styles.

Congratulations on the upcoming launch of your new label UNFACED. Can you tell us more about the label and the concept behind it?
Unfaced is my new main project, label & events. The concept is variety & quality.

How will the output differ musically from your label NEOACID?
Neoacid is hard music, electronic & acid focused, Unfaced is wider, I gonna release everything I produce and I want to promote from other artists, including Ambient, Rap, Techno, Breakbeat, etc

The first release is a huge single ‘Midnight Express’ with French techno legend POPOF. How did you connect with Alex in the first instance and what was it like collaborating with him on the record?
I met him last year at Fabulous Festival, then we spoke on Insta, I was quite surprised by what he was producing at that moment so I suggest him a collab, wich I think is really great.

Can you tell us about the electronic music scene where you’re living right now?
Hard music is getting bigger and bigger, it is great to see that’s its also developing a lot in USA or Latin America.

What are your favourite pieces of studio equipment right now? (Please name at least three)
TB303, TR8S & Berhinger TD-3-MO
Top 3 favourite records you love to play at the moment?

H! DUDE – Vegatable
Blame The Mono – Switch Pilot

Can you tell us about some of your favourite non-electronic music artists?

What have you got planned for the rest of the year?
