When you think of talented names within Techno, Spanish artist Oscar L often finds his way into conversation – and rightly so. With his career spanning over 15 years, Oscar’s distinguished productions have found themselves at home on some of the music world’s most respected imprints – including Adam Beyer’s Truesoul and Drumcode stables.
The latter of those two notable platforms holds a particular significance, as Oscar joins the lineup for ‘The Yacht Week Presents’ Drumcode label takeover later this month (18th – 25th June 2022). He joins Adam Beyer, Bart Skils, Ilario Alicante, Joris Voorn, Juliet Fox, Layton Giordani, Lilly Palmer, Nicole Moudaber, and Rebūke for an unforgettable soundtrack across seven days of incredible parties in unique locations along the stunning Croatian coastline this summer.
Ahead of Oscar’s hotly anticipated Techno voyage across the Adriatic, we caught up with the Spaniard for an in-depth chat about life at sea, music and much more:
Hey Oscar, thanks for joining us here at Techno Mood. Firstly, let’s talk about what you have been up to recently and life after the pandemic situation?
The truth is that during the pandemic, I was very calm, enjoying a relaxing time at home and being able to be with friends and do those things that never give time, like painting – hahaha. After the covid, work has begun to return to normal. I have already done a few tours around America and India, it was my first time there, and I am very happy to feel a close public again!
You have a big booking coming up with The Yacht Week and Drumcode. What can you tell us about that?
I am so excited! Spending a week sailing around Croatia is already very exciting; add to it being with the Drumcode family, I think it’s going to be an incredible time – and that those attending Yacht week and us the DJs are going to enjoy it a lot!
Have you ever been sailing before, and how are your sea legs?
Not much, just sometimes in Ibiza with some friends, but a few hours! I hope to be a good sailor!
A floating festival is a pretty unique concept. Have you got any tracks specially stored for the occasion?
I have some new tracks ready to try, and I think that will be the perfect opportunity to release my new EP on Truesoul!
Drumcode is undeniably a cornerstone of the Techno community. How does it feel to be involved with one of electronic music’s best-known stables?
It’s a dream! I started collaborating with Adam a few years ago and releasing my tracks under Drumcode’s sister label Truesoul. Since then, we have been collaborating more continuously and having the opportunity to perform under such a category event is a real pleasure for me!
Do you have any big releases in the pipeline that you’re excited about?
As I mentioned before, yes, I have a new EP on Truesoul that will be released very soon. Some DJs like Ilario and Adam himself are already supporting him a lot in their sets – I hope you like it!
Imagine you are stranded out at sea; which three things would keep you sane?
Uff, I hope it never happens, but if it does, I think I would go crazy without music or someone to share it with!
Whilst travelling, do you have any rituals or techniques to help keep you in good shape – mentally or physically?
The truth is that I don’t have any ritual or anything similar. I like to eat well, rest and be calm. I’m a pretty neat person, so I need my life not to get crazy when I’m travelling and on tour.
Lastly, sum up Oscar L in five words or less.
Discipline, Work & Music.
