At the end of October, Italy’s Riva Starr and US icon Todd Terry came together for a collaboration on Hot Creations. ‘This Is The Sound’ proved to be a hit and quickly found itself holding the #1 spot on Beatport. To mark the release, we invited Riva Starr for a chat to find out more about the collab, enjoy!

Hey Riva! A pleasure to have you with us today. How are you doing and whereabouts are you chatting to us from right now?
Hey! My pleasure guys, I’m currently in Australia so slightly unbalanced timewise.

We’re pleased to be speaking with you following your latest release, ‘This Is The Sound’. A collaboration with scene legend Todd Terry on the revered Hot Creations imprint. Congrats on a wicked release here. We’d love to hear how you and Todd decided to link up on this one?
We have been friends for quite a while and we already did a collab together a few years ago (me being Soul Speech), the track was tilted Feeling and we released it on my label Snatch! Records. So we had the opportunity to do it again and we did it 🙂

Released earlier in October, the title track is proving to be a hit and is currently sitting at No.1 on Beatport. Congrats!! What have the reactions to the record been like for you?
Amazing hey! Totally unexpected but we’ll take it. Reactions have always been outstanding since I started playing it back in Feb.

What was it like working with Todd on this release?
Todd is a lovely lovely man and his knowledge about house music is second to none so it was a huge honour to produce this track with him.

It’s great to see you back on Hot Creations again, how did this one find its home on the imprint?
I have been releasing a lot on my label and just wanted to diversify the output on some friend’s label.. Hot Creations and Jamie are some of the most consistent entities in the dance music industry for what is related to my kind of sound so it was only natural for me to try and release it with them.. Jamie played it for the first time in front of 25k people ad Kappa Futur Festival and signed it the same day.

It’s been another great year of output from your own label too, Snatch! Records, welcoming the likes of Carl Cox on remix duties, Oliver Dollar, Demuir, yourself and more. Are there any lesser known artists coming through on the label at the moment that we should keep an eye on?
There are always new or lesser known artists releasing on the label, we have forthcoming tunes from newcomers Unidos from LA, Tete De La Course, Elias R and we recently released music from Mauro Venti as well that are still working well in the club!

Riva thanks a lot for chatting with us today! Wishing all the best. To round things off, is there anything else upcoming that you’d like to share with us?
We have a forthcoming Floorplan remix for my project with Mark Broom called Star B…the track is House Sound… keep an eye on this cuz it’s a rocket!
