Hi Yulia, a pleasure to have you with us today! How are you doing? How is your tour in the U.S. going?
Hello! Thanks for having me! I am good and the tour is going so well. After 2 years of calmness, 17 shows for one month sounds kinda intense! But I couldn’t ask for a better comeback after 5 years away from the US. I am enjoying every second of it, except sitting on a plane in a mask.
Where are you now and where are you off to next?
Right now in Miami, close to the beach. I can see the ocean from the balcony. Lol Tomorrow I’m flying to Mexico city and then off to finish the rest of my fall tour in cities like Lima, New York, Tulum, Austin and Guadalajara… Oh and I am really excited to be in Oaxaca for Day of the Dead!
How has it felt to get back to touring after the hardships of the pandemic?
Touring again has been so exciting that from time to time I pinch myself to make sure I am not dreaming. The pandemic has been very unfortunate for many but I tried to make the best of it. One thing I spent a lot of time working on was the direction I wanted to go with my production so I can perform my unique sound. So being back on dance floors now, in many cities for my first time, and seeing everyone enjoying themselves after all the work has been really amazing. I remember counting days till I needed to pack for the airport.
What aspect did you miss the most during the absence of events?
I missed people. I am very social and love to meet many people daily. So not being able to do this made me so bored and stressed, at times I thought I was going to go crazy. I am really happy that things are reopening and we can all be together again. Also I missed the energy from the crowd, they are so important, without that a lot of those live streams had so much less emotion. Basically, people are my drug and without their energy I was doubtful if I would continue to do music. But thankfully all is good for now.
So we are very pleased to be chatting with you today around the release of your track It’s All In My Mind ft. Mommo G on Rebellion Presents: SOULS Vol.2 VA EP. This is a brilliant track on a brilliant EP. How did this track come about and how did it find its home on SOULS Vol.2?
In those hard pandemic days I had a chance to meet a group of very talented, spiritual women within Berlin’s community called “Womanas”. They work together by collaborating and supporting each other whatever it is. We all went on a trip to Poland and I met Lupe there. She is a super cool artist and is very active as a Dj, singer and amazing painter. On our drive back to Berlin, Lupe and I ended up sharing ideas and then something clicked and we decided to make a collaboration.
Mommo G’s vocals fit the eerie nature of the track perfectly. How did you and Mommo G come to work together on this track and what was it like working together?
Lupe came to my home studio and I showed her all I am working on. I am always searching for uplifting ideas and that’s what I wanted to base this record around. Some days later she wrote me a message – “Hey, I was sleeping and then I woke up super inspired and it hit me”. She sent me lyrics recorded with different filters and then I started looking for the right sound. It actually took a while. Almost a year.
Aside from travelling… what do you like to get up to in between gigs whilst on tour?
If I have time I usually ask people what is the most beautiful thing to see around the area. I am usually too tired for tourist stuff but I’m always up for it. I also spend time making new music, edits or looking for fresh tunes. I always eat a lot of traditional food. And google “Yoga near me” 🙂
Thanks for chatting with us today Yulia and wishing you all the best with the rest of the U.S. tour! To round things off, is there anything else coming soon from yourself that you would like to share with us?
It is always a pleasure to express my feelings in words because mostly I do talk to people through music. Thank you. To readers, I wish to stay healthy and positive. We will see each other on the dancefloor soon! xxx
