BNR kicks off 2023 by making good on a past promise. “Love & Validation,” BOYS NOIZE and KELSEY LU’s sex-paced industrial ballad, never received an uptempo club treatment – until now. The “Love & Validation Remixes” EP offers three new flavors of elevated atmosphere, syrupy vocals, and body-tuned rhythms from ELAX, MARCEL DETTMANN, and the elusive JACKSON.
The recording of “Love & Validation” was an international affair, written and recorded in LA where Lu is based. The remix EP, however, begins with a double dose of Berlin courtesy of MARCEL DETTMANN, a central figure in the city’s Berghain era. DETTMANN keeps the vocals and atmospheric refrain intact but surgically implants a thumping techno backbone so loosely-quantized it’s almost tribal. The new rhythm and arrangement are transformative, as if a track meant for (ahem) horizontal listening suddenly stood up vertically, taking it from the bedroom to the big room.
