Released return with another helping of their ‘Winging It’ series. This digital-only compilation gathers together brand new heaters (as well as three slept-on tunes from the back catalogue) from fifteen artists from the labels’ roster, all making waves within Leeds’ downbeat, balearic, and electronic scenes.
Joining Chris Dawkins, Wells and The Local Beatnik, who are back for round two having all appeared on the first installment, are rapper-turned-producer Bruce Leeds, jazz and soul blogger Matt Paul Smith, Lithuania native and analogue gear dealer Ed Dubs. Ahano Brown spreads a message of positivity over hard-hitting SOPHIE-esque beats, whilst DJ/producer Shauna, who recently made an appearance on HOR, returns with the 4X4 floor-filler Reassurance Loop.
Many of the scene’s stalwarts make an appearance under different aliases, including NiceThings, the project of Tom Stewart of Breaking The Illusion, who were billed as the British De La Soul in the late 80s. The Local Beatnik makes a second appearance, this time as Surkit, his new 80s synth guise, and Tony Green’s Doklief project combines hip-hop sensibility with a club sound. But, standout track Beat comes from Mint resident Bobby O’Donnell, under his downbeat alter ego Bear Witness.
