Producer/DJ/songwriter SONIKKU drops the bilingual, dangerously catchy eurotrance fiesta ‘Wonky’ feat. Spanish underground icon Rakky Ripper, out now on Bella Union.
‘Wonky’ is the second single from his upcoming wildly diverse, multi-genre, multi-collab album chronicling an insane rave night, ‘Whirlwind of Malevolence’, out April 12th 2024.
‘Wonky’ ft Rakky Ripper: a summer night rave anthem – fast, full of bounce and wit, with euphoric synths and a mischievous Spanish female vocal – described as ‘A party song with elements of trance and Balearic influences, and an homage to European dance music such as ’Stereo Love’ by Edward Maya,’ by London-based, underground scene alumnus SONNIKU himself. ‘This track has gone through many iterations and was one of the first written for the album. I wanted a Spanish language track to highlight the many places recording this album has taken me.’
SONIKKU’s second album ‘Whirlwind of Malevolence’ aims to channel our memories of one of those epic nights when the music, the vibes, the people, come together just right, through a hectic melange of electronica, hip hop, europop, trance electronica…, in a gamut of genres and emotions, intricate beats, and high octane melodies, all tied together by SONIKKU’s signature tech savvy and sheer hedonistic joy.
As well as Spain’s Rakky Ripper, other glittering global collab partners include Australian maverick PartiBoi69, UK female live-coding pioneer DJ Dave, Brooklyn-based R&B songstress Bayli, NYC It Girl Miss Madeline, and Lagos, Nigeria-based rapper Deto Black.
‘This album is extremely varied as I wanted to include all the genres I listen to and reflect as much of my personality as possible. I’ve always been told ‘you’re too pop for dance, too dance for pop’. I like sitting in that weird zone of uncertainty.’
There will be another single in March before the LP drops, so if you’ve had one of those nights but somehow can’t remember it, help is at hand.
