Brian Harrison and Martín Kasall, known as Brigado Crew, united in 2012 to craft innovative musical projects, adopting their stage name from the Portuguese word “obrigado,” meaning thanks. Their dynamic collaboration has seen them release music across esteemed dance labels globally, including Diynamic, where their hit single ‘Zulu’ reached number one on Beatport’s Deep House chart for over twenty days in 2017. Their pioneering sounds have garnered support from industry luminaries such as Solomun, Tale of Us, and Adriatique, and have shared decks with prominent artists like Paul Kalkbrenner and Nora En Pure. In 2020, they embarked on their first album project, ‘Symbiosis’, released on German prestigious imprint Stil vor Talent, earning acclaim with tracks like ‘7’ reaching third place in Indie Dance Beatport sales. In 2022, they launched their own label, Symbiosis, followed by releases on Bedrock Records and Tomorrowland Music in 2023.
How did you first get introduced to electronic music, and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
Pfff from when we were so young we were always super connected to music. Listening to our parents radio, etc. Then when we were in high school, we start listening to electronic music, going to raves and when we saw DJs playing we said to ourselves we want to be in that part of the party, not on this part dancing, we want to make people dance with our taste of music selection.
Can you share some challenges you faced early on in your career and how you overcame them?
Reaching so fast in our career the #1 in Beatport sales with our track ‘Zulu’ on Diynamic was extremely great, but it was hard to deal with it all, to analyse what’s better for our career, to see who is there to help us and who wants to take just advantage from that.
How do you balance your individual creative ideas within Brigado Crew to produce cohesive tracks?
Well Martin usually starts the idea at the studio and then when we meet daily, we listen together and put some ideas on it. The good thing with being 2 people is when Brian listens the track for the first time is totally new and his point of view so it’s fresh to select what works and what doesn’t. So that basically makes the next step of working.
What are some key elements you consider when crafting a new track or remix?
The first part of the production for us is so important cause it’s when you see if track goes well with your inspiration or not. Getting stuck in the beginning its a real tragedy haha.
How do you stay inspired and innovative in such a rapidly evolving music industry?
We are 24/7 focused on our careers really. We are all the time like workaholics! Of course is not easy to stay inspired but the advantage of doing it full time is when we are not inspired, we work on other stuff so we never get stuck and maintain the flow.
Can you describe a memorable moment from one of your live performances that had a significant impact on you?
Without no doubt, when we play after Paul Kalkbrenner in Cordoba, Argentina. It was a really challenge and the best moment live in our careers.
What role do you think technology plays in your music production process, and are there any specific tools or software you prefer?
It s hugeeeee of course, we use technology a lot and we are always searching for new plugins etc. to make our sound evolve day by day. We have no preference.
How do you approach collaborations with other artists, and what do you look for in a potential collaborator?
We are super fans of making collabs with other artists. We really believe and trust that being more than 1 or 2 people making music is awesome, cause you can mix ideas and points of views from other people to reach one song and that mixture is wooow incredible.
How has your cultural background influenced your music, and do you incorporate any specific cultural elements into your tracks?
Honestly no! We just make what we feel 🙂
What advice would you give to aspiring electronic music producers who are just starting out?
To have a lot of patience and always believe in your ideas. Many of them won’t be right and you will crash into a wall, but that is where you start growing. You need to try fail try fail and continue doing until you are proud of it!
