Boasting some big support from the likes of Solomun, Dixon, Adriatique and Trikk to name a few, Israeli duo Hard To Tell (Roy Leibovitz and Roi Zarhi) have consolidated their status as the pair you want to see behind the decks if you’re going out for a night of a lifetime in Tel Aviv. Over the past three years they’ve brought that intensity and showmanship to gigs in Ibiza, Berlin, Brazil, Slovakia, Tulum, Italy, Mykonos among others, and their global takeover is assured with a slew of upcoming releases and an album in work. Following the launch of their new label “Pills On Hills” with their musical partner Nariz, we caught up with the duo to talk learn more.
Hello guys, welcome to Techno Mood! How are you both?
Hey it’s a pleasure to be here with you. We are feeling great, thank you, hope you are too 🙂
Please can you introduce yourself for our readers?
Our real names are Roi & Roy and we are “Hard To Tell” . We live in Tel Aviv and we started to make music together five years ago . Before we started to make music we were Dj’s for over a decade .
Have you had a good start to 2022? What have been some of the highlights?
Yes we have. The beginning of 2022 was outstanding actually. We released a new EP call “Arabic Sub” incl. remix from Yotam Avni and we also released our secret edit for The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby that was supported also by Solomun and many more. We have also recently received a lot of support for our unreleased music by Dixon, Adriatique, Trikk and many more.
Who or what were your biggest musical influences and inspirations growing up?
In the most non-cliche way possible, we simply feel inspired from the bottom of our hearts. For both of us, music has been a part of our identities for as long as we can remember. It’s impossible to pinpoint one specific source of inspiration, but overall our general excitement and passion for discovering and developing great music is what motivates us to work every day on growing and becoming the best we can be.
Can you tell us about the electronic music scene in Tel Aviv these days?
Here in Tel Aviv we have learned how to live next to Covid 19, so all the places are open and clubs are full. The music scene is here back! The best artists from all over the world come to play here every week in a different club or big festival.
Besides the obvious nightlife spots, where are some of your favourite places to hang out in the city?
When we want to relax and be inspired we like to go to music shop name The Third Hear. They have all kind of album you can think of. Also we have great spot in the city, on the top of the Hashlom tower, this our secret place, you can see all the Tel Aviv from there. sunset and sunrise .
If you could collaborate with any artist in the scene right now, who would it be?
With Ame or if we have two options so also with Trikk 🙂
Top 3 favourite records you love to play at the moment?
Rhye – Black Rain (Ame Remix)
Josh Wink – Be Aware (Truncate Remix)
Plastikman – Spastik (Dubfire Rework)
Can you tell us about some of your favourite non-electronic music artists?
We really love to listen to ambient music and to soul music. We can even listen to just a lot of vocals without music .
What have you got planned for the rest of the year?
For the rest of the year we will have a lot of new music coming up on different labels and also we will have a few more collaborations. We are planning to play in some different clubs in Europe and America!
Any final words for our Techno Mood readers?
We would love to thank you guys for your attention and make sure you keep following us and stay tuned! All the best and see you soon! HTT
