Thanks for talking to us Sole, can you tell us about how you started your music career?
It was a process you know, when I moved to Milan I was going out with a techno collective who used to produce and play techno music. They were also organizing events in a social centre. But there was not space for me as a DJ there, so I started to exercise a lot at home and start my own parties. That’s How people have come to know me and my music.
You have also managed to cross over into fashion with your music, working with brands like Armani, Audi and Valentino – do you think this is important for an artist to expand their create world into other arts areas? If so, why?
Of course! I mean, when we talk about art, we need to be mentally open and able to get inspiration from different worlds. That is also part of my path as an artist. No matter how different the context can be for a party, festival, runaway, playlist, you will always recognize if something was made by Sole Dosi.
Can you tell us about your club residencies?
Sure, Tempio Del Futuro Perduto is my favourite venue in Milan, they are the first cultural centre recognised by Italian law and an important institution in Europe. I also play in other venues very often, one of them is Rocket Club, which was also one of the first clubs where I started my career
We hear you are a vinyl collector – can you tell us your Top 3 records in your collection?
That’s a tough one. For sure, the first is the jazz vinyl ‘In Person at the Blackhawk, San Francisco’ by Miles Davis. The second is a Craigie Knowes one from Lisene called Square One EP. And, the third I would say‘Alpha Tracks -Ute010’, techno-trance with mind-drilling 303s, ethereal pads and touching melodies, a timeless sound.
Do you play vinyl? How important do you think it is to keep vinyl alive and why?
I usually play vinyls at home and I love digging when I visit different cities. One of my favourite places is Killer Cutz in Amsterdam. I love digging there for hours drinking a tea or beer, that’s the beauty of it. It’s always important to keep this alive cause in the end we are DJ’s and our job is to find records that nobody is able to listen to it easily on the internet. During performances by the way I prefer playing digital cause I think I can better express myself, and I can also bring easily with me around the world all the vinyls that I have sampled in my stick.
Your recent release came with a remix from Secret Cinema, do you have any more collaborations in the future you can tell us about?
I am working on something special, but I still can’t tell nothing about it unfortunately
Finally, what sets you apart from other artists, what makes you stand out?
Well, for sure My chameleonic ability to adapt to any context. I don’t like to be the kind of ‘superstar DJ’ that plays what he wants without taking into account the people in front of me and the context. a feature that I believe has been forgotten by many in the scene today. Also, that I can somehow find music that nobody can find. I always like to surprise people and make them discover new music. Everyone knows how to make people dance to the music they already know, but I challenge anyone to do otherwise, and make them discover their new favourite record.
