REVIEW: VAKAT – LIGHTWORKS (EP)

Aleksandar Grum aka Vakat is also known as Redial Tone who hails from Montenegro and returns with this new project following outings on Marcelus’ Singular Records in Paris, and the Spanish stronghold Subsist.

‘Switch’ kicks things off with a raw, angular jam, wrapped in analogue grit and infectious electronic funk that tears forward with a jovial heart at its core.

Second up is ‘Thrill’ that opts for a moodier approach. The rolling bottom end, pulsing phasers and deep chords add a menacing sensitivity to its otherwise energetic framework.

‘Locked’ is a slick and jackin’ affair of raw modular tones that’s dripping in 909 flavour and functionality at its best, with one thing in mind, to make you move.

Showing his production skills in full effect, ‘Flame’ is a lesson in abstract grooves and rich sound design, for those who like raunchy, heady techno full of character and creativity.
